I'm a big boy now!

I guess Vinson isn't officially a big boy until he's potty trained in my book, but he has learned a lot of new things lately. Vinson can say his name! It sounds like "Dinson." I was a little suprised because I thought he would call himself "Vincy" because that's what all of his friends call him. He is trying to count, in English and Czech. In Czech he counts one, two, three, six, eight. Eight is "osm" which sounds like awesome and is his favorite word. He also trys to say the ABC's. We're not sure where he picked that up. Maybe from Elmo. He's good at saying "n" but that's about it.
Vinson's also big enough that he doesn't need a nap every day. Which is a very sad thing for me :( During the phasing out process I would try to lay with him in the crib (yes, I'm small enough) or put him in our bed with me and finally when nothing would work I would leave him in his crib and try to take a ten minute nap in my room. At this point Vinson turns into a psycho-possessed little boy and screams his head off. Nothing can consol him and he's ultra picky about how blankets are situated, changes his mind about wanting milk or juice, and of course they have to be in his favorite--at that moment--sippy cup. I decided ignoring him completely was the best strategy because I was positive he needed a nap and even more sure that I needed one. I'm laying in my bed and his crying stops. "Oh good!!!" But then it starts up again and gets louder and I hear his foot steps running into my room. "WHAT!!" Yes, Vinson has learned how to climb out of his crib. I've rearranged the furniture so that the couch no longer can help him and he still can do it, but he needs the extra adrenaline from psycho Vinson to do it. If he's calm he can't climb out. Crazy. So I take naps and hope he doesn't mess up the house too much.
So with all of this in mind I can tell you a story that happened today. Vinson wanted me in the crib with him so I got in and we were playing. He put blankets on me and told me goodnight. I was ready for a nap, so I played along . . . really well. Then he "helped" me go to sleep by climbing all over me and using my head as a stool. Then he wanted out of the crib, so I helped him out and one by one he took away all of my blankets. I wouldn't let him take the last one, which happens to be his favorite until he gave me a different one. Then he played with his toys and came back to the crib wanting to get back in. I wouldn't let him because I wanted to sleep.
...Half an hour later.
It was unusually quiet when I woke up from my nap. Then I could hear Vinson's breathing a little louder than normal. I sat up and saw that he was sleeping on the carpet. I stole his bed from him and made him sleep on the carpet! I felt horrible. He slept another hour and a half on the carpet so when he woke up I spoiled him. I felt alwful.

Date Night

It's been a while since Dan and I have gone on a date, but we're saving up for Paris and don't really have money so it was hard for us to think of thigs to do that are free. But, hello! We live in Prague, so we decided to be tourists.
Us on top of Petrin Hill.
The blossoms are out!
We found a nice table to take a picture for us!
The castle at twilight.

The castle at night with Charles Bridge in the foreground.

It actually was a really fun date! We even had some free entertainment on Charles bridge. A guy was playing classical music on glasses filled with water. It was pretty amazing!

Who needs money to have a fun date, anyways?

Randomness

So, our camera is back and ever since we got it I've wanted to blog again. Isn't that interesting? So, I've promised pictures of our cool eggs and here you go. The two on the left are Val's, the middle two are Magda's (she's the one that taught us), and I bet you can't guess which one is Dan's and Vinson's.
We haven't really done anything exciting. I'm starting to feel the baby. It's moved really good for Dan a few times. We can't wait to find out the gender of our baby, but we'll find out on the 23rd . . . stay tuned! And we're going to Paris for our anniversary! (April 30th) We're pretty excited! Our friend is going to watch Vinson.
Vinson is getting really good at coloring pictures. I wouldn't say he's good at coloring in the lines. His two favorite things are bossing us around and telling us what animal to draw, and hiding something and saying "where did it go?!" I wish I had a recording. I'm going to work on it. It's high pitched and pretty funny. Not so funny was when he put my keys in the toilet and said, "Keys! Where'd it go?" I followed him into the bathroom and was suprised. Vinson escaped my wrath because we had company here ;)

Easter

Unfortunately our camera has been broken since our Utah trip (but it should return fixed in a few weeks) so this post won't have any pictures. We've had a lot of fun this Easter! On Friday afternoon Vinson and I went to our friends the Wicker's house to do some easter egg dying. Vinson was very excited about playing with Vivian and Martin, but didn't seem so impressed with the egg dying. I think I plan a lot of things for myself more than Vinson. I'm the one who really wanted to dye eggs.
That evening we invited a LOT of people to come to our house and dye eggs. I had blown out 1 1/2 dozen eggs for the occasion, but Magda was the only one to come. We had learned last year the Czech technique of melting crayons and painting the egg with the crayon. Magda had this technique perfected. She had a bottle with metal lids attached with wire so that she could put wax into the metal lid and put a candle underneath so that the wax would stay melted. To make it work you need to use 1/2 bees wax and 1/2 crayon for the color. Otherwise the crayon will just burn. Then you dip pins into the wax and paint the egg. My first egg wasn't so hot, but I improved immensely and made some pretty awesome eggs! Dan also did amazing on his first and only attempt. Magda said that Dan was the first man she has ever seen doing easter eggs. (Here the men/boys make whips and the girls paint eggs). We had no trouble painting all of the blown out eggs and even some of our cracked hard boiled eggs. It was kind of sad to throw the hard boiled masterpieces away when you wanted to eat the egg. I will post pictures when our camera returns. Saturday morning we returned to the Wickers for an easter egg hunt! It was pretty funny because camouflaged eggs really threw Vinson off.
Sunday night we were spoiled with AMERICAN FOOD! We had ham, green jello, funeral potatoes, and homemade "reese's peanut butter eggs." Ham was the only food that is easily found in Prague. :)
Monday is when Czechs celebrate Easter. The girls decorate eggs and the boys make whips and on easter the boys "lightly tap" the girls bottom and the girls give them an egg. I guess the "bottom tap" is supposed to help girls stay fertile. It's an awful tradition, but kind of fun. Unfortunatly Vinson was sick so we had to cancel all of our whipping appointments :(. He's feeling much better now, but still not back to normal.
